Architectural Syncretism

This is a slideshow showing mosques in Southeast Asia, India, and Africa. There is clear integration of Muslim architectural styles, and it is striking that mosques that are in very far apart countries have almost the exact same architectural features. Some consistent features of Muslim architecture are interior vaulted spaces, a circular dome, and the use of stylized, often geometric, repeating decorative patterns.

This next slideshow shows architectural syncretism that favors the indigenous style of each mosque - that is, one can definitely tell where each mosque is from, although some or many elements of Muslim architecture might be present.
